06-07-2018 Forest Board Meeting

Meeting called to order at 4:08 PM

APPROVAL OF MINUTES from the 3/1/17 meeting unanimous

Clem Powers presented proposal to install a bench on the top of Baldtop Mountain in honor of his mom Marcia Dunning. The Bench will be installed on June 30th and prep work will be done with Board members during the week before the installation. Terry brought up that the bench honoring Marcia met criteria for approval by all the work that she has done to support and maintain the trail system. A generator to drill for anchor bolts and rotary hammer drills will be taken up with Forest Board members in UTV’s. There is no cost to the town. The project has the full support of the Board. David will contact Peter Ackerman to navigate his fence. Clem will continue to organize the logistics and keep the board informed.

MOTION: David made a motion to support Clem and family in placing a bench on Baldtop Mountain to honor Marcia Dunning. Mitch seconded and passed unanimously.

Knox Road Work: The site visit on Knox Road resulted in agreement that work should be done and Jim will organize an excavator to do work when he has the time. Zach and Chris Emerson will be doing the logging work and they will trim out the side of the road to protect and improve the access. Possible follow up roadwork will be done with dozer rental by Peter, to be decided. The logging will include mature pine and 2 clear-cut habitat patches.

David brought up increasing the donation to TACF in the future to include seeds that would increase the presence of Chestnut in our forest. This will be continued at our September meeting as David accumulates more information.

Signs that educate about the Chestnut project are available to the Town at no cost if we create a display system. The appropriate location and design will be established.

Terry is going to reroute sections of a trail that needs work.

Next meeting will be September 6, 2018 at 4:00 at Fairlee Town Hall meeting room.
