03-10-2021 Recreation Council Meeting

Fairlee Recreation Council Draft Minutes March 10, 2021

Meeting called to order at 6:00 pm. Members present: Bernice Mills, Tad Nunez

Discussions:

Fairlee Beach

Tad sent out the notices to the past beach staff employees asking them if they wished to be rehired. If so, they would need to reapply next week. After the deadline they would open the jobs up to the public. Tad already heard from two of the past employees letting him know that they plan on returning.

Swim lessons will all depend on COVID guidelines. Regardless of if swim lessons run or not, Tad stated that we need one life guard and one beach guard on duty. The council will revisit this in April.

Easter Coloring Contest

Tad wondered if this should be called something else. Who will be judges?

Where will the creations be dropped off? How will the winners collect his/her prize?

Another idea was posed.

Egg-cellent Adventure

Participants young and old color or create an egg. Let’s get creative! Hang the egg creation on display on your door, fence, tree, etc.

Once your egg creation is on display, feel free to post the street name on our FB page.

Take a family walk, bike or car ride around the neighborhood to look for eggs between April 1st and April 12th. Please respect social distance guidelines.

Have fun on your adventure!

Skating Rink

Tad asked where the council was in regards to the skating rink. Bernice stated that the committee had a few questions that needed answering. The council will revisit this idea at a later date.

  • Would the ice skate rink be housed on the common? How much does it cost to create the rink?
  • Does it impact the grass? Who maintains it?
  • Who is liable if someone gets hurt?

Tad brought up the idea of looking into a small skating rink at the Town Beach Area. There may be a possibility of winterizing the beach house for skaters to warm up. That area could be plowed. The committee will add this to the April agenda.

Next meeting date is April 14, 2021
