10-14-2020 Library Board Meeting

Board of Trustees Meeting
Fairlee Library
October 14, 2020

 

In attendance: Cyrie Lange, Samantha Hickman, Charlotte Williams, Jen Johnson, Joy Weale

  1. The meeting was called to order at 7:04 PM by Cyrie Lange in the library.
  2. Minutes of September 9th meeting were approved unanimously, on a motion by Joy, seconded by Cyrie.
  3. Librarian’s Report: Due to Samantha’s travel plans Charlotte will cover for Samantha Friday 10/16 and Saturday 10/17. Lisa will cover Thursday 10/15. October Book Group and Building Committee meetings will be by Zoom. ILL will start up again next month. Thanksgiving and the day after and Saturday the library will be closed. LMPA offer of a bench has been withdrawn due to lack of donations. They will still cover other donation commitments. Cramer Electric has not come in to fix the phone line yet. Furnace maintenance will be October 21, from then on we will be on auto call for scheduling maintenance. Door count is down significantly, but items circulated is quite high. Low door count is at least partly due to lack of programs, story hour, etc. French conversation group is looking for a place to meet. They might come here Tuesday after the library is closed.
  4. Treasurer’s Report: Computer expense line item is too high; Samantha will investigate. The unexpected cost of the solar installation has created significantly higher electricity line items than last year’s electric bills. The solar expense should be a separate line item from the electricity usage.
  5.  Old Business: None.
  6.  New Business: With respect to the building investigation committee, the question of demolishing the barn is possible; SB will discuss.There is no asbestos in the barn; any paint chips would need to be cleaned up to prevent lead problems The committee has had two meetings. The donor wishes to remain anonymous. A quick survey was sent out to get community opinions. Arlene Guest has replaced Dennis O’Donnell. We have about 16 responses to the survey at this point. Samantha has met with one architect, who proposed internal adjustments without expansion of the existing building but with later phases as possible. There are two other architect possibilities at this time. Don Weaver will participate in the next meeting by Zoom.

 

Meeting adjourned at 8:22 PM. Next meeting will be November 11th at 7 PM, in the library, with masks and distancing.
