Board of Trustees Meeting
Fairlee Library
November 11, 2020

In attendance: Cyrie Lange, Samantha Hickman, Charlotte Williams, Stacy Dunham, Joy Weale

1)The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by Cyrie Lange in the library.

2) Minutes of October 14th meeting were approved unanimously, on a motion by Joy, seconded by Cyrie.

3) Librarian’s Report: Vermont librarians are discussing how to handle winter hours due to Covid. Samantha would like to remain open as we have been, as long as the governor allows this. We had a discussion about privacy and also how to handle potential positive Covid tests. The Trustees would like patrons to put their name and time of arrival on a single slip of paper, which Sam would file in a closed box in case it might be needed later on for contact tracing. She will ask the State Librarian for her opinion. Samantha would like to close the library from Christmas Eve through January 5th to use her vacation time. Trustees gave their approval.
–Order for summer reading program materials has been placed.
–Samantha has ordered a laminator and is looking into replacing two windows. We have enough money left in the budget and the money needs to be spent.
–Samantha has put together a proposed 2021 budget. Most line items are level funded except for electricity, which will increase presumably due to solar array costs. Estimate for salary increase is 3%, but that may change.
–Carpet cleaning will be Monday November 16th. ARC has done maintenance on the heating system.

4) Treasurer’s Report: Overspent on juvenile fiction. Substitute pay is underspent.

 

5) Old Business: Cyrie made a motion that The Trustees vote regarding the demolition of the barn on the library property and removal of debris, at no expense to the town, and as stated in our long-range plans submitted to the Selectboard in 2019. Stacy seconded the motion. Vote by the four Trustees present was unanimous in favor of this motion.

 

6) New Business: Sam reported on the status of the Library Facilities Committee.

–Sam and Jen will meet with potential architect Jay Barrett tomorrow to talk over building plans. Steve hopes to join them by Zoom.

Meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM. Fairlee Budget meeting is Thursday November 19th at 6:00. Next Trustees meeting will be December 9th at 7 PM, in the library, with masks and distancing.
